This test detects Mycoplasma and Ureaplasma spp., small opportunistic microorganisms that can colonize the urogenital tract. They may be transmitted through sexual contact and, under certain conditions, can cause urogenital infections. The test helps identify the pathogens and initiate timely treatment.
Indications
- genital discharge
- discomfort or burning during urination
- suspected urogenital infections
- infertility, pregnancy loss
- pre-procedural screening
- post-treatment follow-up
Procedure
A sample is collected from the urethra and/or vagina using a sterile swab (depending on the physician’s indication). The procedure takes a few minutes and may cause mild discomfort.
Method
PCR (polymerase chain reaction) and/or culture for detection of Mycoplasma and Ureaplasma spp.

Preparation:
- do not urinate 2–3 hours before the test
- avoid sexual intercourse for 24–48 hours prior
- do not use vaginal products before testing
- avoid antibiotics for 2–4 weeks before the test (if possible)
