Cod fish

Cod is a common marine fish allergen. The main allergenic component is the protein parvalbumin, which is resistant to heat. Allergic reactions can occur both from ingestion and inhalation of vapors during cooking.
Indications
- Suspected fish allergy
- Skin reactions (hives, itching, swelling) after fish consumption
- Respiratory symptoms (rhinitis, cough, bronchospasm) upon contact with fish
- History of anaphylactic reactions
- Differential diagnosis of food allergies
Procedure / Duration
- Detection of specific IgE to cod allergen via blood test
- Venous blood sampling
- Duration: 5–10 minutes
- Results are usually available within a few days
Preparation:
- No special preparation required
- Recommended to fast or eat lightly 2–3 hours before the test
- Avoid antihistamines (as advised by your doctor)
- Avoid eating fish for 24 hours prior to the test
