Trichomonas vaginalis in urethral swab/M

This test detects Trichomonas vaginalis, a single-celled microorganism that causes trichomoniasis, a urogenital infection transmitted mainly through sexual contact. Infection occurs during unprotected intercourse. In men, the infection is often asymptomatic. The test helps confirm the presence of the pathogen and allows timely treatment.

Indications

  • urethral discharge
  • burning or discomfort during urination
  • unprotected sexual contact / new partner
  • suspected sexually transmitted infections
  • post-treatment follow-up

Procedure
A sample is collected from the urethra using a sterile swab. The procedure takes a few minutes and may cause mild discomfort.

Method
Microscopic examination and/or laboratory detection of Trichomonas vaginalis in the biological sample.

Preparation:

  • do not urinate 2–3 hours before the test
  • avoid sexual intercourse for 24 hours prior
  • avoid antibiotics for 10–14 days before the test (if possible)
