Digital X-ray of the sella turcica (1 view)

400.00 MDL

A sella turcica X-ray helps detect pathological processes occurring in this region. X-ray imaging allows evaluation of the bony structure—its shape, size, and anatomical contours. This procedure can help identify pituitary neoplasms, hematomas resulting from cranial trauma or birth complications. Additionally, it may assist in diagnosing tuberculous meningitis and osteomas in the sella turcica area.

When is a sella turcica X-ray indicated?

  1. Pain around the orbits, epiphora (excessive tearing), decreased visual acuity
  2. Suspicion of empty sella syndrome, where the pituitary gland is compressed
  3. Inflammatory processes of the brain and its membranes
  4. Headaches and neck pain of unknown origin
  5. Intracranial hypertension
  6. Dysfunction of the adrenal glands or thyroid gland
  7. Gigantism caused by pituitary dysfunction
  8. Recent cranio-cerebral trauma accompanied by signs of pituitary damage

What can the radiologist see on a sella turcica X-ray?

  • Pituitary neoplasms
  • Osteoporosis of the sella turcica
  • Blood vessels visible due to increased intracranial pressure

* X-ray is contraindicated in pregnant women unless strictly indicated by a physician.

Procedure duration: 5–10 minutes

  • No special preparation is needed. Before the X-ray, all metal objects such as jewelry and piercings must be removed.

Preparation:

No special preparation is required (no fasting or restrictions are required). Inform the doctor/radiologist if you are pregnant or there is a suspicion of pregnancy – in this case the appropriateness of the examination will be assessed or protective methods will be used. Remove metal objects from the chest area (chains, crosses, piercings, safety pins, etc. ) as they may interfere with the image.
