We remind you that independent interpretation of the results is unacceptable, the information provided below is for reference purposes only.
The Gardnerella vaginalis test is a PCR-based laboratory analysis used to detect the DNA of Gardnerella vaginalis in urogenital samples in men. Although this microorganism is primarily associated with vaginal microbiota imbalance in women, it may be detected in men in cases of urogenital inflammation or after sexual contact with a partner diagnosed with bacterial vaginosis.
Indications
- Symptoms of urethritis (burning, discomfort, painful urination)
- Urethral discharge
- Inflammatory urogenital conditions
- Sexual contact with a partner diagnosed with bacterial vaginosis
- Chronic or recurrent urogenital infections
- Evaluation in cases of infertility or reduced fertility
- Routine screening
Procedure
- Collection of a urethral swab
- Performed by a healthcare professional
- Takes a few minutes
- Mild, short-term discomfort may occur
Method of testing
The test is performed using PCR, which detects the DNA of Gardnerella vaginalis in urogenital samples. This method is highly sensitive and allows detection even at low bacterial loads.
